Commonly Experienced Septic System Problems
- Collapsed Baffle: When the baffle (barrier) in your tank collapses, it can result in solid effluent getting into your soakaway system, causing a blockage and potentially resulting in liquid waste backing up in your house.
- Old Age: If you have an older septic tank, you can find that it’s not overly efficient and is more susceptible to clogs, breaks, and other issues.
- Tree and Plant Roots: When trees and plants are located too close to septic tanks, there’s a chance they can grow through pipes and tank walls, causing catastrophic damage.
- Poor Maintenance: Your property is at risk of groundwater contamination, septic system damage, sewage backups, and other issues if you don’t prioritize regular septic tank pumping and maintenance.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Awesome service from Jason. Replaced our entire water line and left our yard as they found it. Replaced the sod as well as spreading new top soil and adding grass seed. These guys are true professionals and we appreciated the service, especially after having a bad experience with another "rooter" plumbing company.

He went the extra mile, pointing out issues that could have created future costly problems. He was very polite, friendly and outgoing. Prices were reasonable and fair. We would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone in need of a plumber. Thanks so much, Ryan!! Aug. 2021 – Almost a year later, I called and requested Ryan to help us with a blockage in our kitchen sink. He found the problem quickly which turned out not to be within our unit, so Ryan wrote up a report for our strata and made recommendations for our building which were greatly appreciated. He always goes the extra mile to cover all the bases. Ryan's not only very knowledgeable, efficient and thorough, he's a real pleasure to have in your home, so personable and friendly. Whenever I need a plumber, it will be Ryan I'll call first! Great big thanks for another job well done, Ryan!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Mr. Rooter has been my GO TO company for several years. They took care of all our plumbing needs with our dry cleaning business. They were ready to come at a moments notice if we had an emergency. Not only did they do a great job, but it would be almost impossible to find more pleasant and honest workers. They priced accurately the jobs before starting, so no unpleasant surprises. Their great service is by no means limited to business locations. They have also solved a variety of my household water issues, from fixing a leaking toilet to providing plumbing for couple new bathrooms, and installing a new water heater. Too bad the evaluation stars are limited to 5. I would give them a 10!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Excellent, quick service. We discovered a water leak in our walls one morning. The lady that answered the phone was very helpful and nice. The technician, David, showed up on time and was very friendly, and showed up here within an hour and a half of my phone call. He knew what the problem was almost right away (something I would never even have thought of!). Did a quality repair, and with minimal intrusion or damage to the wall that had to be cut. Absolutely excellent experience and would recommend to anyone. We need a new hot water tank soon and I will for sure be calling this company again.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆I don't normally write reviews but I had to after the amazing service I received from Jack Reidford at Mr Rooter Plumbing in Kelowna. This man went above and behind and fixed multiple problems at my house. Once he even fixed the first problem he worked on it an extra hour after it was already fixed just to make sure he had it nipped in the butt. I would definitely recommend this company and would suggest to ask for Jack specifically.

Frequently Asked Questions About Septic System Repair in Bear Creek, British Columbia
Below, we’ve provided many answers to our commonly asked questions to help you make an informed decision about septic system repairs. Contact the friendly team at Mr. Rooter Plumbing® in Bear Creek, British Columbia to discover more about our plumbing offerings.
-
How much it usually costs to replace a septic tank ultimately depends on the people you choose to install it, your city and province, and even the unique features of your property. The various additional parts of septic systems, such as septic lift stations and pumps, all contribute to the ‘average’ cost of septic tanks you can expect to pay. Some septic systems are more cost-effective than others based on what your property needs, like a standard septic system or something more advanced, like a chamber system or advanced tertiary treatment system. Large septic tanks can take more time, effort, and materials to install, which means that septic tank installation companies can charge more for them than smaller ones.
-
As there are many variables when calculating the costs of septic tank repair, most reputable service providers won’t provide a flat rate fee. The type of damage your septic tank has sustained plays a leading role in repair costs, with basic problems like blockages being far easier to resolve than severe tank cracks and collapsed drain fields. Plumbing service provider fees and charges vary, so your total septic tank repair bill is determined by the person or business you choose. Accessibility counts for a lot when calculating septic tank repair costs, with deeply buried or obstructed septic tanks sometimes costing more to repair than those that are more accessible.
-
In many situations, the maintenance history of your septic tank or lack thereof over its lifetime contributes to how soon you need to start researching your replacement options. The typical lifespan of a septic tank in Canada hovers around 20 to 30 years, but well-maintained systems in good soil conditions can surprise you by lasting 40 to 50 years. Some septic tank materials are more long-lasting than others, with concrete tanks typically lasting decades longer than steel ones, which can be prone to rust. If you have highly acidic soil and a high water table, you may find that your septic tank doesn’t last as long as those in non-acidic soil and positioned by a low water table.
-
Find your septic tank by looking for anything that looks out of place on your property, such as extra-healthy plant life compared to the rest and any signs of disturbance or ground depressions. As a new property owner, identifying your septic tank may be easy enough by reviewing your property inspection records or information left by the previous property occupant. If you have your home’s building plans, look for any icons or graphics that may represent a septic system, since many builders write them on plans to help future owners. If you still have no luck finding your septic system, contact your local septic system service provider for help since they often have special equipment to find them.
-
As soon as your septic tank collapses, take quick action and contact a reputable septic system service provider in your area due to the risks associated with raw sewage. Your septic tank can’t take care of wastewater treatment and disposal properly when it has collapsed, so avoid using your septic tank at all. Collapsed septic tanks can cause hazardous sinkholes and further property damage, so address the situation as soon as you can to keep your property’s occupants safe. There are rules and regulations surrounding the use, care, and maintenance of septic tanks in Canada, which is why it’s advisable not to use collapsed tanks in case you get in trouble.
-
Contacting septic system professionals for septic tank pumping is crucial for maintaining your septic tank and being aware of any potential problems before they start causing issues. Caring for a septic system is as straightforward as avoiding flushing and pouring anything harmful down your drains, like flushable wipes, personal care products, fat, and oil. Maintaining your drain field is as important as maintaining your septic tank — avoid installing a sump pump near it, don’t plant trees by it, and don’t drive or park your vehicle on it. Excessive water can overwhelm a drain field, so keep an eye on your water usage and inspect all faucets and toilets for leaks to prioritize your septic system’s health.
-
As tempting as it can be to repair your septic tank yourself, you can expect quality repairs by hiring a trusted plumbing service provider to take care of problems for you. Addressing problems with inlet and outlet baffles in your septic tank can be as simple as replacing the outlet baffle with a new plastic sanitary tee. A number of septic system components can be repaired so you can avoid total system replacement, such as sand filters, pumps, drain fields, alarms, and plumbing components. After performing repairs, septic system testing is crucial for ensuring that everything is working as it should and that you’ve solved any issues properly.
-
You can breathe a sigh of relief knowing there’s a high chance your home insurance company in Canada will cover the cost of repairs to your septic tank if it was damaged due to a fire, electrical problem, falling object, or weather event. Most home insurance providers offer septic tank repair coverage as a percentage of your total home policy, meaning you can cover repairs up to a specific dollar value. With so many unknowns in the insurance world, read your insurance policy documents and contact your insurance company to know whether your septic tank damage is covered. Insurance companies generally do not cover septic tank repairs resulting from human error and poor maintenance, including neglect, rodent damage, building over the tank, or flushing inappropriate materials.
-
If you’ve encountered pipe blockages and drain field clogs, you’re not alone; these are some of the many common issues that septic system service providers regularly encounter. Property owners commonly experience septic tank leaks and cracks due to pressure, ground movement, and old age — with many needing to replace their septic tanks. Despite being preventable, there can be a number of septic tank problems related to a lack of maintenance, like sewage odours outside your house, slow drains inside your house, and wastewater backing up into your home. It’s not uncommon to encounter problems related to drain fields that haven’t been well installed and septic systems that are located too close to trees.
-
Minor cracks in septic tank cracks can sometimes be repaired with epoxy sealant products and similar by trusted plumbing service providers. The methods for repairing a cracked septic tank, and whether it’s a possibility, depend on the septic tank materials, such as plastic, concrete, and fibreglass. You may not always be able to tell whether a septic tank is repairable as a property owner, so reach out to a septic tank expert for help to decide. Septic tank replacement can be a more cost-efficient and safer option when septic tank cracks are too severe to repair with epoxy sealants and similar products.
