World Plumbing Day

At Mr. Rooter® Plumbing, we spend thousands of hours every week helping people fix water-related plumbing issues within their homes and businesses. It's easy to forget that some people don't have access to freshwater at all. This month, in recognition of World Plumbing Day, celebrate that little raindrop and the journey it made to your faucet. For more information on how you can help more people access fresh water, visit MrRooter.com.

The Life Cycle of a Drop of Water

The Life Cycle of a Drop of Water

  1. Water enters the atmosphere as water vapor through evaporation.
  2. Water vapor condenses in the atmosphere to produce clouds, fog and rain.
  3. One tiny droplet of water will usually spend nine days in this process before it lands on the Earth as a rain drop.
  4. Rain collects in large rivers, streams, lakes, and other sources called watersheds.
  5. Water is pumped out of these watersheds to a processing center and made safe to drink through filtration.
  6. Processed water is stored until there is a need for it. Did you know: The average water tower holds around 150,000 gallons of water.
  7. Water is pushed by pumps through an intricate route of pipes and is then sifted through your home's internal piping system.
  8. Did you know: It takes 100 gallons of water to fill the average bathtub.
  9. After the water is used, it flows into drains and is sent to a wastewater treatment facility.
  10. Decontaminated wastewater is stored for several weeks before being released into the environment.
