Inside the house, most drain repairs start at the basement floor drain or the main stack. Cast iron installed from the 1920s through the 1960s rusts from the inside, and the scale catches grease and paper until the line barely moves. We cut out the corroded sections and tie in new ABS or PVC with approved transition couplings. Sagging kitchen branch lines get the same fix. Messy work sometimes, but routine for us.
Outside is where the bigger decisions happen. In Hamilton, property owners are responsible for the entire sewer lateral, from the building to the City's main sewer, including the stretch under the road allowance. Depending on what the camera shows, we'll recommend a spot excavation, a pipe liner, trenchless replacement, or a full open-trench replacement. Replacing a building drain falls under Part 7 of the Ontario Building Code, so it needs a permit and a City inspection. We pull the permit and book the inspector.
Once the new pipe is in, we run a final camera pass so you can see the finished work on screen. If your line only needs clearing rather than repair, our drain cleaning service with HydroScrub® Jetting scours grease and roots off the pipe wall.
