  • Tyler installed a new kitchen faucet unit. After he left, (Friday afternoon leading into a three-day weekend) I thought the sprayer hose was twisted and hard to raise and lower. I reported this to the company and received an immediate response that Tyler would come to my home on the following Tuesday to check it out. Meanwhile, the hose seemed to be working out the original kinks. Tyler arrived as promised, and we discussed the factors involved in the hose adjusting to a different alignment from how it was packaged, and I thanked him and he left for his next appointment. So, I appreciate the level of service provided by Mr. Rooter.

Frequently Asked Questions About Septic Tank Pumping in West Porters Lake, Nova Scotia

Become more informed about what’s involved in septic tank pumping and septic tank cleaning by reading our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’. Contact our team today if you have queries, concerns, or questions about plumbing services at Mr. Rooter Plumbing® in West Porters Lake, Nova Scotia.

  • In many cases, the ‘average’ cost of pumping a septic tank is determined by your location and the septic tank pumping company you choose to perform the service. Larger septic tanks hold more waste than smaller ones, which means you can expect to pay more to empty a large septic tank than a small one. Keep your septic tank pumping costs more manageable by pumping on a schedule rather than waiting until your tanks are at risk of overflowing. Many reputable septic tank pumping service providers set their pumping fees based on factors like tank inspection services, distance to their disposal site, tank accessibility, and tank condition.

  • Your unique needs and the type of septic tank you have will contribute to the recommended timeframe for booking septic tank pumping with your preferred expert. In many situations, the size of your family or business, your tank’s size, the climate, and garburator usage all contribute to ideal septic tank pumping timeframes. Small septic tanks in use by larger families or businesses may need to be pumped twice yearly or more frequently than large septic tanks with small families. Not everyone knows how often they should pump their septic tank, so reach out to a septic tank pumping company to learn everything you need to know.

  • When your pipes and drains are making gurgling sounds when you take a shower, flush the toilet, or use the sink, this is a tell-tale sign that your septic tank is full and needs to be emptied as soon as possible. Toilets and drains not flushing are among the most common signs of a full septic tank, which can result in sewage backing up into the house or yard. In some situations, pooling water in a yard isn’t innocent; it can mean your septic tank is full and leaking raw sewage or there’s a broken pipe connecting to it. Excessive grass growth is a sign of a septic tank leaking since raw sewage can contain fertile nutrients — contact a plumbing service provider immediately.

  • Research local septic tank pumping companies thoroughly to ensure you’re choosing reputable and reliable professionals. Don’t underestimate the value of the internet in your search for a septic tank pumping company since you can find them advertising on search engines and in local business directories. To learn about trusted septic tank pumping service providers, talk to friends, family, and other people you know to see if they recommend someone they’ve used. If you have a good relationship with employees of your local home improvement store, ask them whether they have any recommendations for septic tank pumping businesses in your local area.

  • There is no right or wrong time of the year to book a septic tank pumping service — contact a trusted professional at any time. Many property owners don’t book septic tank pumping in winter because access to septic tanks can be challenging, and the ground is often snow-covered or frozen. Many property owners choose to have their septic tanks pumped during the warmer months, so booking your service ahead of time is wise, as slots can fill up quickly! When extreme weather conditions are on the horizon, such as heavy rain that has the potential to make your yard soggy, consider avoiding septic tank pumping at this time.

  • If you don’t have the necessary knowledge or equipment to tackle DIY septic tank pumping, hiring a professional is advisable. Septic tank pumping service providers use vacuum trucks, pumps, large hoses, and safety equipment to pump septic tanks effectively, efficiently, and safely. Septic tank pumping experts have so much more knowledge than the average property owner, including how different septic systems work and the best waste disposal methods. Receipts and invoices can be required as proof of septic tank pumping in Canada, so you may not be permitted to pump your own septic tank in Canada for environmental reasons.

  • Traditional septic systems with septic tanks connected to drain fields are commonplace for wastewater treatment in Canada and typically require routine septic tank pumping. Chamber septic systems tend to be more low maintenance than many other septic systems, but property owners must still book regular septic tank pumping services for them. If you own a small lot with difficult soil and uneven terrain, you may have an advanced secondary septic system that necessitates routine maintenance, including septic tank pumping. Don’t worry if you aren’t sure if your septic system needs to be pumped — contact a trusted service provider to learn all about your unique system.

  • Septic systems, equipped with various components for wastewater management, are commonly found on rural Canadian properties in areas where municipal sewer services aren’t readily available. Conventional septic systems seamlessly collect waste from residences, separate solids from liquids, handle pollutants, and release treated effluent into the surrounding soil. Septic systems take care of both greywater and blackwater, with blackwater describing the wastewater from your toilet, and greywater being the water from showers, washing machines, baths, dishwashers, and sinks that travel through your main drainage pipe. Wastewater eventually ends up in our streams, lakes, and rivers after septic systems perform comprehensive filtering to remove impurities and deliver it back into the ground to become groundwater.

  • Overflowing sewage and blockages in pipes are an unpleasant and often avoidable consequence of not booking a septic tank pumping service with a trusted expert. When solids in a septic tank exceed what it’s capable of holding, there is a risk of them overflowing onto soil and into groundwater, contaminating drinking water sources with bacteria. Emptying your septic system regularly is integral for its efficiency, so failure to do so can mean wastewater has less room inside your tank, and your system operates inefficiently. A foul smell on your property is a common consequence of not pumping your septic tank enough, and it can also mean that something is wrong with your septic system.

  • When inspecting your property to identify your septic system, look for a 60 cm wide septic tank lid that may be made of concrete or featuring green or black plastic. When you’re struggling to find your septic tank, refer to the property diagram you received when you bought your property, which may highlight the tank’s location. Grass and soil can sometimes hide our septic tank lids out of sight, so uncover them with the help of a metal probe inserted into the ground at regular intervals. If you’ve come up empty-handed after searching for your septic tank lid, reach out to a trusted septic tank pumping service provider to see if they have tools to help.
