Tyler installed a new kitchen faucet unit. After he left, (Friday afternoon leading into a three-day weekend) I thought the sprayer hose was twisted and hard to raise and lower. I reported this to the company and received an immediate response that Tyler would come to my home on the following Tuesday to check it out. Meanwhile, the hose seemed to be working out the original kinks. Tyler arrived as promised, and we discussed the factors involved in the hose adjusting to a different alignment from how it was packaged, and I thanked him and he left for his next appointment. So, I appreciate the level of service provided by Mr. Rooter.

The depth of your new sewer lines, their location, and how much of them are being replaced all contribute to the bill you receive for sewer line replacement. Replacement methods for sewer lines can also contribute to overall costs for this plumbing service, depending on whether your service provider opts for trenchless methods like pipe lining and pipe bursting or traditional excavation. Not all sewer line materials cost the same amount of money to buy and install; there can be differences between the more common options like HDPE, ABS, and PVC. Factor in the less obvious expenses associated with sewer line replacement with a trusted professional, like the costs of labour to install new sewer lines, the permit fees you may need to pay, and costs associated with restoring the site.
-
The level of damage or the severity of your sewer situation contributes to the overall amount of money you pay for sewer line services for your home or business. Pipe lining, pipe bursting, and traditional excavation methods all cost different amounts, which means repair methods contribute to your overall sewer repair bill. The labour costs for a sewer line repair typically reflect the job’s quality, with standout professionals offering licensing and insurance, experience, and guaranteed parts and workmanship charging accordingly. Depending on the repairs you have carried out, parts and materials will be added to your bill, such as sewer line pipe, couplings, connectors, and repair sleeves.
-
When you experience sewer line leaks, breaks, and clogs, you’re typically responsible for covering the costs of the private portions of these lines that are on your own property. Municipalities can generally be responsible for sewer line repairs like leaks and frozen pipes when they happen on public property, such as beneath roadways and sidewalks. Main sewer lines have upper and lower sections, both of which you can be responsible for, even if part of the lower pipe section extends beyond your property boundary. Contact a trusted plumbing service provider for advice if you’re not sure whether you or your municipality cover the costs of a sewer line issue.
-
Insurance policies surrounding sewer line replacement can differ, so you must read your policy to know whether your insurance company will cover the costs. Your insurance company considers many factors before deciding on coverage, like the condition and age of your pipes, the type of pipes you have, and your policy type. If your sewer lines are damaged and they are your responsibility, look for service line coverage on your insurance policy, which may mean your insurance provider will cover the associated costs. Contact your insurance company if your policy documents seem unclear and you’re unsure whether they will cover the costs of replacing your sewer lines.
-
Unless you’re only repairing a leak or blockage, you or your plumbing service provider will likely need to obtain a permit for sewer line replacement in Canada, regardless of your province or territory. If you need to replace your sewer lines on a rural property with private water and sewer systems, you’ll typically still need to obtain a permit for the work required. Don’t avoid getting a permit for a sewer line replacement if you need one since there can be repercussions like not being able to connect to the public waterworks system if you don’t. If you’re unsure if you need a permit for sewer line replacement, contact your local council or talk to a trusted plumbing service provider.
-
You don’t typically have to worry about sewer line replacement for decades since PVC pipes can last up to around 100 years, and clay and metal pipes often last for up to 60 years. A number of things affect your sewer lines’ average lifespan, like mishandling through pouring unwanted items down your drains, tree roots, and parking your vehicles on the ground above. While sewer lines can have an expected lifespan, replace them at any age if cracks and clogs damage them beyond repair. You can request a video inspection from your local plumbing service provider to learn whether it’s nearly time to replace your sewer lines due to damage like cracks.
-
Sewer line replacement on residential and commercial properties typically takes between one and five days, depending on the licensed and insured service professionals you choose. Replacement methods can set the speed of your sewer line replacement project, with traditional excavation typically taking more time than newer trenchless methods like pipe bursting and pipe lining. The length of your sewer line and whether you’re replacing the entire line or just portions of it influence how long the replacement job will take. In addition to the sewer pipe replacement time, factors such as soil conditions, sewer line depth, and the work involved in site preparation and restoration also influence the overall duration.
-
As soon as you notice an unpleasant odour on your property, take notice, as this can indicate a broken sewer pipe you need to address. There’s a good chance you have a blockage or break in your sewer lines that requires the assistance of a plumber if your plumbing fixtures are slow to drain. Don’t ignore a gurgling toilet, as this sound is caused by air being trapped and released and can be a sign that your sewer lines are full of water. When sewer line cracks and damage have gone unnoticed for a while, you can notice severe signs like your driveway and concrete pavers sinking and your property foundation cracking.
-
Fixing a broken sewer pipe is not a job you should do yourself; it requires the experience of trusted, licensed, and insured service professionals. While no longer the only option, excavation is still a common way to fix sewer pipes — involving digging up the old pipes, putting new ones in place, backfilling the trench, and restoring the earth. Many sewer line repairs are performed with trenchless methods like pipe lining, where epoxy is inserted into a sewer line to create a smooth, sealed interior without removing the old pipe. Your plumber doesn’t have to dig a trench to replace a piece of your sewer line; they can break the old pipe, known as pipe bursting, and insert a new one in place with an expander and without the need to dig a hole.
-
Considering sewer line replacement is worthwhile if you find yourself spending significant time and money on repairs for aging pipes in your home or business. A history of poor maintenance can lead to significant problems with sewer lines, prompting property owners to consider replacement with the help of a reliable plumbing professional. If your plumber has discovered tree roots damaging your sewer lines, they will normally recommend that you replace the pipes and address the tree to prevent further problems. If you’ve encountered problems with your sewer lines that are related to buildup, installation quality, or layout, replacement can be the most cost-effective solution.
