  • Tyler installed a new kitchen faucet unit. After he left, (Friday afternoon leading into a three-day weekend) I thought the sprayer hose was twisted and hard to raise and lower. I reported this to the company and received an immediate response that Tyler would come to my home on the following Tuesday to check it out. Meanwhile, the hose seemed to be working out the original kinks. Tyler arrived as promised, and we discussed the factors involved in the hose adjusting to a different alignment from how it was packaged, and I thanked him and he left for his next appointment. So, I appreciate the level of service provided by Mr. Rooter.

Frequently Asked Questions About Septic Tank Pumping in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia

We’ve provided the answers to our commonly asked questions so you can learn more about what’s involved in septic tank pumping and septic tank cleaning. If you have any questions about our business or other plumbing services, reach out to the friendly team at Mr. Rooter Plumbing® in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia.

  • The costs of septic tank pumping services depend on many factors, like where you live and the company or individual you choose to carry out the septic tank pumping service. Pay attention to the size of your septic tank because its size contributes to the costs of pumping it due to how much extra waste needs to be removed. Regular septic tank pumping means that you can pay less than if your tank was full because it’s not at capacity or at risk of overflowing. There are many variables in septic tank pumping service costs, like accessibility, disposal site distance, the condition of your septic tank, how accessible it is, and whether you want to purchase extra services like inspections.

  • You will need to consider your own septic tank type, household size, and usage pattern to determine how often to book a septic tank pumping service. There are several influences on septic tank pumping timeframes, like your local climate, how frequently your tank is used, your tank size, and even whether you use a garburator. If you have a small tank and a large family, septic tank pumping is often recommended around twice yearly compared to approximately every three to five years if you have a large tank and a small family. When you aren’t sure how often you should be pumping your septic tank, contact a septic tank pumping company for advice based on your unique setup.

  • Since gurgling in sinks, showers, and toilets indicate a full septic tank, contact a trusted septic tank pumping professional immediately if you hear that sound. Alongside noticing sewage in your yard or property, you can also tell that your septic tank is full because your toilets and drains are no longer flushing. Contact a trusted plumbing service provider as soon as you notice pooling water on your property since it can point to a full septic tank or a broken pipe. When raw sewage leaks from a septic tank, it can provide your lawns with fertile nutrients for growth and health, so look out for signs of overly lush grass.

  • Take your time to research the different septic tank pumping professionals in your area. Use a mobile phone or a computer to access search engines and business directories where you’ll find the names and contact information of septic tank pumping companies. There can be great value in talking to friends, family members, and even neighbours to see who has used a septic tank pumping company they trust and would recommend. If your local home improvement store connects with trades-based businesses, ask staff members if they know of any septic tank cleaning companies they would recommend.

  • You don’t have to wait until you believe it’s an ‘ideal’ time to book septic tank pumping services — reach out to a trusted service provider when you need to. You can still book septic tank pumping services in winter, but you can encounter challenges like snow-covered or frozen ground as well as access challenges. There is high demand for septic tank pumping services in the warmer months of the year, so book your service in advance to avoid missing out on your preferred appointment slot. Keep an eye on the weather when planning septic tank pumping, as you may need to book your appointment around heavy rain to limit mess or complications.

  • As tempting as it can be to try DIY septic tank pumping to save money, it’s not advisable since you need experience and the right type of equipment to do it properly. Most septic tank pumping service providers handle the task of septic tank pumping with advanced equipment like vacuum trucks, hoses, and pumps, along with safety gear for peace of mind. Septic tank pumping service providers have a great deal of knowledge that most property owners don’t, like the best waste removal and disposal techniques and intricate system knowledge. As an over-full tank can result in environmental pollution, many provinces in Canada set regulations for how often you should pump your tank with a trusted septic tank pumping company.

  • Many properties in Canada feature traditional septic systems with a septic tank and drain field, which require regular pumping to keep them operating at their best. Chamber septic systems, which have special dispersal areas and leaching chambers, are more advanced than traditional septic systems but still need routine pumping to work at their best. Many homeowners with small properties featuring uneven terrain and challenging soil have advanced secondary septic systems that require repairs, filter renewals, and septic tank pumping over time. Don’t hesitate to contact a local septic tank pumping business if you’re unsure whether your specific septic system needs to be pumped or maintained in any other way.

  • Septic systems consist of various components for treating wastewater on your property and are commonplace in rural parts of Canada, where many homes aren’t connected to municipal sewers. Most septic systems have multiple functions to take care of waste, starting with collecting it from your property before separating the solids, removing pollutants, and treating the effluent before distributing it onto the land. The wastewater entering your septic system consists of greywater from household appliances like washing machines and dishwashers and blackwater from the toilet, travelling through the main drainage pipe. Our wastewater goes through a series of filtering processes in septic systems to remove impurities before being distributed into the soil to become groundwater and travel into lakes, rivers, and streams.

  • Not emptying your septic tank regularly can result in solids overflowing from your tank, resulting in clogged pipes and a large mess on your property. Groundwater and soil contamination are a genuine consequence of not emptying your septic tank enough — you can risk introducing disease-causing bacteria into your drinking water. Your septic system is at risk of failure if the solids within it take up too much space, leaving very little for wastewater and causing damaging inefficiencies. If you’ve noticed foul smells on your property, this means your septic tank needs to be emptied or that something is wrong with it.

  • Septic tank lids, measuring around 60 cm wide, are generally concrete or feature black or green plastic, so keep those descriptions in mind as you inspect your property from corner to corner. If a property diagram was provided for your property when you purchased it, inspect it for the septic tank as it may have been identified on it. Septic tank lids can become hidden under grass and dirt over time, so insert a metal probe into the ground across your property to help find it. Finding hidden septic tank lids is the specialty of many septic tank pumping service providers, so contact them when you have no luck finding your lid yourself.
