Local Entrepreneurs Receive Prestigious Awards
Burnaby, B.C. (July 6, 2010) Steve Kaldis, Patrick O’Connor and David Abrams, owners of the Mr. Rooter® of Burnaby franchise, received the Franchisee of the Year from Mr. Rooter Corporation during the company’s international convention in San Antonio June 20-23.
“This is the highest honour given to a franchisee,” said Mary Kennedy Thompson, president of the Mr. Rooter Corporation. “Steve, Patrick and David are very deserving of this award. Years ago they made their customers No. 1, and it shows throughout their business. They set a high standard for their franchise and are wonderful examples to our franchise owners.”
Mr. Rooter presents this award to the franchise owner who has consistently grown through proper training and management of the organization while also providing a consistently high level of success through quality and professional service.
“It is gratifying and humbling to be recognized as the 2009 Franchisee of the Year,” O’Connor said. “We could not have received this award without the dedication of our team and the quality service they provide on a daily basis. Our technicians work hard to go above and beyond in every customer experience.”
Kaldis, O’Connor and David Abrams received several other awards, including the Market Penetration award, which is given to the franchisees with the highest per capita sales in their respective regions. Mr. Rooter Corporation also recognized the shop as Sales Leader of the Year and for hitting two sales benchmarks in 2009, a year when many businesses experienced negative growth.
“We are so blessed to have had such great success, but we’ll never forget where we came from,” said Kaldis. “In 1997, Patrick and I were working for the existing franchisee when they suddenly closed their doors. We approached the corporate office looking for guidance on how to get our jobs back. The suggestion was made that we work together and purchase the business ourselves. The rest is history.”
Kaldis was recently elected to the national Mr. Rooter advisory council. In this position, he will provide opinions on the formulation of plans, programs and policies effecting the system-wide direction of Mr. Rooter Corporation.
