Watch the Puck Drop; Just Don’t Drop the Ball With Your Plumbing

Vancouver, BC (May 15, 2009) – Excitement is in the air as friends gather to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But some may end up with costly repairs if they don’t have their kitchens and bathrooms ready for extra guests.

“The extra strain put on your plumbing can be a problem when you have a houseful of guests,” said Mary Kennedy Thompson, president of Mr. Rooter® Corporation . “More people using the facilities can increase the stress on your garbage disposal, dishwashers and toilets.”

To keep potential plumbing problems from putting party plans in the penalty box, follow these tips:

  • Throw scraps in the trash.
  • Turn on the water, then turn on the disposal and feed the waste gradually.
  • Rinse your dishes.
  • Don't overload the dishwasher.
  • Remove items from the back of the toilet to prevent them from falling into the bowl.
  • Stock up on one-ply toilet tissue.
  • If the kitchen sink is backing up, call a licensed, qualified plumber.
