Rolls Repurposed: Penguin Toilet Paper Roll
By Alex Woodby

Parents, are you looking for a fun-filled craft to complete with your kids this season? How about an activity that models recycling as well? Did you know you can make a baby penguin out of a toilet paper roll? It really is the perfect craft with winter quickly approaching. Plus, it's very easy to make and requires few supplies.

Follow these easy step-by-step instructions for the perfect toilet paper roll penguin:

Here is what you'll need:

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Black permanent marker
  • Scissors
  • White construction paper
  • Orange construction paper
  • Glue
  • Googlie eyes (optional)

Step 1: Take an empty toilet paper roll, and color the whole roll black using your permanent marker.

Step 2: Cut an oval shape in the white construction paper and glue it on to the roll in the middle. This will be your penguin's stomach.

Step 3: Use the orange construction paper to cut out a small triangle to use as your bird's beak. Also cut out two webbed shaped pieces to make the penguin's feet. Leave a little extra space on the end to have a tip to fold into the inside of the roll. You can either glue on or tape on the nose. Do the same with the feet.

Step 4: After the roll is all black, squeeze the roll together and make two slight, 45 degree angled cuts in the middle of the roll on both sides. Fold these slightly up to create the wings.

Step 5: If you have the craft googlie eyes handy, you can glue those for a fun finish to your penguin's face. If those aren't available, you can always draw eyes above the beak.

Everyone will love this small, homemade craft penguin. It is also a great craft for kids to make for loved ones this holiday season.
