Grandma's Bread and Butter Pickles
Our recent Mr. Rooter Cookbook Cover Contest created some buzz as the cover of our upcoming "Plunge Into Cooking" cookbook was decided. Carol Yost even shared her own recipes with us.
Her cousin Jamie Smith owns Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Baltimore. Carol is guest blogging for us today, and here are some of her favorite kitchen memories.
I loved my Daddy's Mother - we called her Grandma Smith. The strongest memory is of lots of people around a dining table, and Grandma Smith giving me the newly opened Bread and Butter Pickles, with a big slice on top. I always took that pickle and any more if they made it around the big table. She was a wonderful cook, and I was an eager student. She made Peanut Brittle in a cast iron skillet. She ironed a mountain of laundry and I just hung out and talked with her. She was fun to listen to.
